The family who created this very happy and alive feeling family room have added to its sense of spaciousness and dramatic warmth by painting their woodwork in a color drawn from their upholstery fabric and echoed in their lamp. If they had painted their woodwork in a more traditional white, the contrast between that white and the more muted colors in their seated furniture might have made the room feel too busy or active.
